Jacob's Apple Device Set
Jacob’s Apple device set comprised an iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, and AirPods Pro 2 purchased by Logan Weston when Jacob Keller left the hospital in late October 2024. Logan placed the three devices in a white Apple bag on the desk in Jacob’s new bedroom before Jacob arrived at the Weston home.
Acquisition and Selection
The iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods were one coordinated gift rather than separate purchases. Logan selected them with Jacob’s discharge clothes and insisted that the household provide Jacob with a reliable phone and a way to call for help outside the house. Julia Weston presented the bag after explaining the household rule that Jacob could go out as long as he gave them a heads-up and kept his phone with him. When he objected to the cost, she told him, “Because you deserve it, Jacob. You deserve to be safe.”
Logan chose current models in the darker finishes Jacob preferred. The set included a black iPhone 16 with 256 GB of storage; a 42mm Apple Watch Series 10 with GPS + Cellular, a Jet Black aluminum case, and a black Sport Band; and AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C MagSafe charging case. The smaller Watch case limited bulk on Jacob’s narrow wrist. This Apple Watch was separate from the black-faced wristwatch Julia and Nathan gave him at Christmas.
Configuration and Use
The cellular Apple Watch gave Jacob a second route for calls, messages, and manual Emergency SOS when his iPhone was not within reach, subject to network coverage and an active cellular plan. It did not detect seizures. Jacob was seventeen when he received it and therefore too young for Apple’s Fall Detection feature; after he turned eighteen, Fall Detection could respond only to a detected hard fall and could not identify a tonic-clonic seizure itself.
Jacob used the AirPods Pro as his portable everyday headphones. Their active noise cancellation helped him reduce environmental sound, including during periods of sensory overload, while the iPhone carried his calls, messages, music, and the household’s check-in rule. After Christmas 2024, the devices shared Jacob’s Apple account and services with his MacBook Pro; the Apple Watch remained paired to the iPhone.
The devices charged overnight on a white Belkin BoostCharge Pro three-in-one MagSafe stand, model WIZ017ttWH, on Jacob’s nightstand. The stand held the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro case in fixed positions and kept all three within reach from the bed.
Documented Use
Jacob kept the iPhone with him when he left the Weston house. He used the AirPods Pro’s noise cancellation in his bedroom and elsewhere when he needed a less intrusive pair than his over-ear Sony headphones. The Apple Watch handled daytime notifications and communication, then charged on the Belkin stand overnight.
